What a display in Kansas City usually looks like.

We work the Kansas side of the metro, and in Kansas City, Kansas that means the western half of the city and the older neighborhoods down near the state line. Out in Piper and the streets around the Legends, most homes were built in the last twenty-five years: two-story fronts, entry gables, three-car garages and flat, open lots with young trees. Closer in, around Turner and Argentine, the housing is much older and lower, frame homes and small ranches on hilly streets with big mature trees. The two halves need different displays, and we price and schedule them differently as a result.

Christmas lights on a home — roofline lighting like we install in Kansas City, Kansas

What it costs to light a home in Kansas City.

$9 per foot of roofline. The roofline is the whole formula.

Piper and the newer subdivisions off Parallel Parkway are mostly two-story builds measuring 190 to 250 feet of front roofline, which is $1,710 to $2,250 at $9 a foot. The older neighborhoods on the south and east sides are smaller, commonly 100 to 140 feet, or $900 to $1,260, often with a front porch that wants its own short run. Ranch homes along the Leavenworth Road and 78th Street corridors sit in between at 130 to 170 feet. Older streets have real tree canopy, so wrapped trees at $150 come up more there than in Piper.

Where we work in Kansas City.

I-435, K-7, State Avenue, Parallel Parkway and Leavenworth Road are how we move across the west side, with the Legends, Kansas Speedway and Wyandotte County Lake Park as the landmarks people give directions by. The older neighborhoods near the state line are a short hop from our shop in Mission; Piper is a longer run out west. We work those as separate trips. To be clear about our area: we cover the Kansas side only and do not cross into Missouri.

Three things to know about lights in Kansas City.

Piper builds are tall and wind-exposed

The newer subdivisions out west sit on open ground with two-story entry gables. We clip tight on those exposed peaks, and in-season repairs are included if a run needs resetting after a windy stretch.

Older streets here are steeper than they look

Turner and Argentine sit on real hills, and driveways drop away fast. We set ladders from the flattest footing available and use levelers rather than forcing a bad angle on a sloped approach.

Questions from Kansas City.

Do you install Christmas lights everywhere in Kansas City, KS?

We work the Kansas side of the metro, and in KCK we focus on the western half, including Piper and the areas around the Legends, plus the older neighborhoods near the state line. We do not cross into Missouri at all. Send your address and we will confirm whether it is in our area before quoting.

What does a Piper home in Kansas City, KS cost to light?

Piper's newer two-story builds usually measure 190 to 250 feet of front roofline, so $1,710 to $2,250 at $9 per foot. That includes commercial-grade C9 lights, install on plastic clips with no nails or staples, a timer, in-season repairs, January takedown and off-season storage.

Can you do a smaller older home in Kansas City, KS?

Yes. Older homes in Turner, Argentine and the streets near the state line typically run 100 to 140 feet, which is $900 to $1,260. A holiday light installation on a smaller house still includes everything: lights, clips, timer, repairs during the season, takedown and storage. Porch runs are measured as part of the total.

Will this damage my roof or gutters?

No. Plastic clips made for shingles and gutters. Nothing is stapled, nailed or screwed in, and nothing is left behind after takedown.

Do I have to take them down?

No. Takedown in January and storage are part of the $9 per foot. Next year is one text message.

Lights on. Hands off.
